Anatomy of an Electronic Purchase

From card acceptance to receipt in less than 2 seconds.

Start: The customer makes a purchase

.5 Sec: The payment information passes to Elavon where we will capture the customer’s transaction information and payment card data.

.75 Sec: Elavon sends the Card Networks and the card issuing band and authorization request. Most transaction authorization data is encrypted during transit.

1 Sec: The transaction authorization request arrives at the customer’s card issuing bank where the transaction is either approved or declined or the merchant is given other instructions regarding the payment.

1.3 Sec: Elavon send the authorization decision back to the business where the customer made the purchase.

Finish - 1.7 Sec: The business receives the decision and, if approved completes the sale and presents the customer with the purchased merchandise and the transaction receipt evidencing the payment.
